Filipino photographers featured in ArtFairPh’s ‘Provocations’ exhibit

Art Fair Philippines 2018, scheduled on Mar. 1 to 4 at The Link Carpark in Makati City, is introducing ARTFAIRPH/PHOTO, presented by Swiss private bank Julius Baer. For the first time, ArtFairPh will turn the spotlight on photography, with exhibit “Provocations,” as one of its highlights.

Curated by Neal Oshima and Angel Shaw, it marks Art Fair Philippines’ first exhibit dedicated to documentary photography. Gathering image-makers who are not affiliated with galleries, the exhibit intends to show the range of established and emerging documentary photographers: Jes Aznar, Nana Buxani, Geloy Concepcion, Tommy Hafalla, Carlo Gabuco, Kawayan de Guia, Paco Guerrero, RJ Fernandez, Jose Enrique Soriano, and Veejay Villafranca, among others.

Most of the works presented are the outcome of covering beats, of photojournalists pursuing stories in the field. Culled from the artist’s long-form narratives, photographers present an excerpt of stories unfolding in the course of years, put in dialogue with one another, all giving light to an aspect of Philippine culture.

For a more organized flow of visitors, Art Fair Philippines 2018 will have timed entry periods for the public fair days: 10:00am to 1:30pm, 2:00 to 5:00pm, and 5:30 to 9:00pm. Guests may stay at the fair and appreciate the art as long as they wish, and they may leave at their own convenience. Tickets can be purchased online up to 24 hours before the A total of 51 galleries, 36 of which are local, will be participating in Art Fair Philippines 2018.
