Review: Samsung Galaxy A03 is Perfect for Gen Z

Straightforward gadgets don’t get enough credit. Millennials, can you imagine going through college with all these… functions? We’d have never gotten anything done. While the Gen Zers, the digital natives, are born for this, many of them don’t love it. In 2018, 34% of them left social media permanently, while 64% took a break from it, according to an article in Marketing Drive. Older generations, on the other hand, are thriving in this space — appreciative of the ease of connectivity and level of convenience that was once unheard of.

This is why the Samsung Galaxy A03, the brand’s most affordable and straightforward smartphone, speaks to this market. First of all, the price point makes it budget-friendly for parents who need to get their kid a phone for remote learning. It’s also affordable enough for students to save up for, and its key straightforward features make it the best companion for learning (read: no unnecessary distractions). At a starting SRP of P5,490, it’s well-within the price range of first time jobbers who are learning the ropes of, well, adulting.

So what do you get from a straightforward smartphone? Pretty much all of it!

One of the common disadvantages of these entry-level gadgets is their feel — usually lightweight and kind of plasticky. The Samsung Galaxy A03 isn’t. At 6.5 inches in size and 720 x 1600-pixel resolution, this phone has the elegance and feel you’d expect from Samsung phone in this range. Ever notice how more affordable smartphone models come in so many colors? This only comes in three understated ones: blue, black, and classic red — no one has to know your phone cost as much as your shoes.

Not that there’s anything wrong with that. In fact, you should get bragging rights for recognizing such quality and value in a smartphone that is possible to pay for in full upfront.

The Samsung Galaxy A03 makes a reliable companion for casual digital creators (a.k.a. you, budding TikTok star) with a 48MP Main Camera and 2MP Depth Camera with Live Focus effects. It also has a decent 5MP Front Camera, also with Live Focus. Note that with Live Focus, keep a steady hand try to shoot with as much natural light as possible.

It has a decent battery life of 5,000mAh, which will last you about eight hours if you’re using it non-stop, and the entire day if you’re a more passive user. Storage is available in three variants: 32GB, 64GB, and 128 internal storage. This is expandable externally for up to 1TB. The minimum is more than enough storage for standard usage, which includes calls, messaging, social media, music, and some streaming apps. If you’re planning to store large files, consider upgrading storage.

Not Just for Gen Z

Hold up — come to think of it, the Samsung Galaxy A03 is the kind of smartphone anyone can use. You know who else this kind of straightforward technology caters to? Older people who can’t be bothered with smartphone drama. You know what I mean: “Oh no it’s not recognizing my face!” “My thumb isn’t working.” “Why is it asking for so many things?” “Can you help me, I can’t find Facebook.”

The Samsung Galaxy A03 practical, no-nonsense design and functions make it a good everyday phone. It may not have all the bells and whistles of, say, a Fold, but it’s as sleek and comprehensive as it can get at its price point.
