Christmas movies are coming

It’s the most wonderful time of the year and it’s just around the corner, or so every holiday card writes. But you know what else is on the cards? Fluffy, heartwarming and some chilling Christmas flicks. We’re not talking about blockbusters — these movies set in the holidays or about the holidays. Get ready, you’re about to be as good as snowed in.

FROZEN II – NOVEMBER 22

Elsa, Anna, Kristoff, Olaf, and Sven are back! No plot on this much anticipated sequel yet, but we think it’s really smart that they’re showing it way ahead of the holidays — you know, for the kids to get all hyped for their Frozen presents!

LAST CHRISTMAS – DECEMBER 4

Emilia Clarke (HBO’s Game of Thrones), Henry Golding (Crazy Rich Asians), Michelle Yeoh and Emma Thompson star for director Paul Feig (A Simple Favor, Spy) in Universal Pictures’ Last Christmas, a romantic comedy inspired by a George Michael beat, from a screenplay by Academy Award ® winner Thompson (Sense and Sensibility, Bridget Jones’s Baby) and playwright Bryony Kimmings.

Kate (Clarke) harumphs around London, a bundle of bad decisions accompanied by the jangle of bells on her shoes, another irritating consequence from her job as an elf in a year-round Christmas shop. Tom (Golding) seems too good to be true when he walks into her life and starts to see through so many of Kate’s barriers. As London transforms into the most wonderful time of the year, nothing should work for these two. But sometimes, you gotta let the snow fall where it may, you gotta listen to your heart … and you gotta have faith.

BLACK CHRISTMAS – DECEMBER 11

Just in time for the holidays comes Universal Pictures’ and Blumhouse Productions’ Black Christmas, a timely take on a cult horror classic as a campus killer comes to face a formidable group of friends in sisterhood.

In Black Christmas, Hawthorne College is quieting down for the holidays. But as Riley Stone (Imogen Poots) and her Mu Kappa Epsilon sisters—athlete Marty (Lily Donoghue), rebel Kris (Aleyse Shannon), and foodie Jesse (Brittany O’Grady)—prepare to deck the halls with a series of seasonal parties, a black-masked stalker begins killing sorority women one by one.

STAR WARS: THE RISE OF SKYWALKER – DECEMBER 20

At this point, yes, Star Wars is a Christmas movie. The surviving Resistance faces the First Order once more as Rey, Finn and Poe Dameron’s journey continues. With the power and knowledge of generations behind them, the final battle commences.At this point, yes, Star Wars is a Christmas movie. We can’t wait!

KLAUS – NOVEMBER 15 on Netflix

When Jesper (Jason Schwartzman) distinguishes himself as the postal academy’s worst student, he is stationed on a frozen island above the Arctic Circle, where the feuding locals hardly exchange words let alone letters. Jesper is about to give up when he finds an ally in local teacher Alva (Rashida Jones), and discovers Klaus (Oscar winner J.K. Simmons), a mysterious carpenter who lives alone in a cabin full of handmade toys. These unlikely friendships return laughter to Smeerensburg, forging a new legacy of generous neighbors, magical lore and stockings hung by the chimney with care. An animated holiday comedy directed by Despicable Me co-creator Sergio Pablos, KLAUS co-stars Joan Cusack, Will Sasso and Norm Macdonald.

Holiday Rush – Soon on Netflix

Single dad and radio DJ Rashon “Rush” Williams loses his job right as his four entitled kids share their pricey Christmas lists. To keep Rush on the air in New York, his producer and aunt plan to help him buy another station — if the Williams family can downsize fast and embrace a simpler life. In this heartwarming film, a loving father reconnects with his children when they all learn that true joy comes from who you have, not what you have.
