Marvel Studios made the announcement during their presentation at the D23 Expo in Anaheim earlier today.

The series, titled Ms. Marvel after the titular hero, will mark the live-action debut of the character, and will focus on the latest iteration of the heroine, the Pakistani-American teenager Kamala Khan.

Created by editors Sana Amanat and Stephen Wacker, writer G. Willow Wilson, and artists Adrian Alphona and Jamie McKelvie in 2013, Kamala Khan is the first Muslim superhero to headline her own comicbook in Marvel history, after making her comic debut in Captain Marvel #14.

Known for her powers of polymorphy AKA the ability to shapeshift ansd stretch or “embiggen” parts of her body, Kamala is the fourth hero to take the Ms. Marvel mantle, succeeding Carol Danvers — the current Captain Marvel, played in the Marvel Cinematic Universe by Brie Larson— Sharon Ventura and Karla Sofen.

According to Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige Ms. Marvel’s appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe will not be limited to the Disney+ series, as it was also confirmed that the character will make the jump to the big screen after making her debut appearance on television.

As of press time, aside from the show’s official logo being announced on Twitter, no official release date has not been revealed, nor is any casting and production information currently available.
