MCU announcements take SDCC by storm

Devotees of the House of Ideas have a lot to look forward to after Marvel Studios unveiled its slate of movies for the upcoming Phase 4 of its Cinematic Universe.

Speaking in front of the San Diego Comic-Con crowd at the Hall H Panel, Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige talked about what lies ahead for the MCU after the events of Avengers: Endgame and Spider-Man: Far From Home.

Among the films mentioned in the lineup are the Black Widow stand-alone prequel (May 1st, 2020), The Eternals (November 6th, 2020), Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings (February 12th, 2021), Doctor Strange In The Multiverse of Madness (May 7th, 2021), Thor: Love and Thunder (November 4th, 2021). Feige also teased that Marvel Studios will be doing work on Blade, which will star Academy Award-winner Mahershala Ali as the titular Daywalker; however, no release date has been announced.

One major announcement came in the form of director Taika Waititi presenting the Mjolnr to Natalie Portman, proclaiming her character Jane Foster as the next Thor — a move that mirrored the comics. | IMAGE via MARVEL COMICS

Additionally, Feige also announced the air dates for their lineup of shows, which will be exclusively shown on the new streaming service Disney+. Among the shows are Falcon and the Winter Soldier (Fall 2020), WandaVision (Spring 2021), Loki (Spring 2021), What If…? (Summer 2021), Hawkeye (Fall 2021).

Feige also announced that work is being done on fan-favorite titles X-Men and the Fantastic Four, following Disney’s acquisition of the properties’ film rights after their merger with Fox, although no dates have been announced for their respective films.

Unfortunately for nerds and fans though, no trailers or teasers have been presented at this year’s Hall H panel, although that may change when the D23 Expo rolls in come August this year.
