Designer Sassa Jimenez celebrates the complicated and alluring whimsy of women with ‘Ten’

Sassa Jimenez is a storyteller who’s sure of what she wants to say—and makes sure she says it with a flair only she has. With pieces that speak clearly of her unique creative process, she’s ready to celebrate a decade-long career by putting her signature whimsical work back on display.

Designer Sassa Jimenez marks her 10th year with new collection and exhibit.

Ten, her anniversary collection, speaks of movement. From the drop of each ruffle and fold on every piece to Jimenez’s own journey in the industry, the collection is the apex of all the passion and hard work the designer has put into her career.

“There are some techniques that I’ve used throughout the years. One is the jellyfish-like ruffles that we used in earlier collections and revived in the anniversary collection,” she said. “The most challenging part was making classic looks without sacrificing uniqueness and creativity.”

According to Jimenez, the collection’s highlight is a teal ballgown with a sweeping layered train. “This particular collection stands out because it’s a culmination of everything we’ve perfected throughout the years,” she said. “It really shows the playfulness I have when it comes to designing womenswear.”

“It also showcases how I always want to pay homage to a woman’s figure but still incorporating interesting or exaggerated shapes,” she added.

In honor of ten whimsical years of style stories, Jimenez gathered family and friends for an exhibit launch that featured key pieces from Ten. She also screened an equally-whimsical collection film directed by Adrian Calumpang and scored by CRWN, who provided groovy beats at the launch as well.

Jimenez credits her community of family and friends for keeping her motivated. “It’s really a celebration of the brand and how grateful we are for the people that brought us here,” she said. “It is also a reintroduction of myself as a designer and how much I’ve grown in the last 10 years.”

“I’ve learned that there is strength in knowing what you are good at and developing that,” Jimenez concluded. “Always play to your strengths and collaborate with those who supplement your weaknesses.”
