Kevin Durant: Rise, grind and shine

Back-to-back NBA Champion Kevin Durant of the Golden State Warriors was in Manila Sunday to push Filipinos’ inner self-belief and use it as fuel to become the best in the game. During the visit, Durant trained select Hyper Court ballers to rise, grind and shine, held a short meet-and-greet with fans, and put on a show at the Araneta Coliseum called the KD Hyper Court Team All-Star Challenge. He also launched his latest signature shoe – the KD 11.

Rise. Grind. Shine. Again.

The two-time NBA Finals Most Valuable Player’s first visit to the country under Nike began uptempo at the Nike Part Fort in BGC where he was welcomed by cheering fans to the sound of drums and a dazzling display of jeepneys. A short Q&A session immediately followed, where he got to meet and greet some of his top Filipino fans. The two-time NBA champion shared how his consistency and uncompromising drive no matter what the odds served as key to help him reach the top.

Durant then went to conduct an intense training session with young ballers at the Nike Hyper Court in Comembo, Makati, which sports a full image of him in action on the hardcourt. KD shared the technique of his signature one- leg fadeaway move with the players, whom he also challenged to a shootout. To constantly remind and inspire them about the lessons they learned, he gave each one a KD backpack that contained a basketball with messages personally written by him.

Local media also got to meet KD in a brief get together before proceeding to the Araneta Coliseum for the Nike KD Hyper Court Team All-Star Challenge. The Warriors forward experienced firsthand the Filipinos’ love for the game when he played with a select team of local collegiate athletes. He also showed the crowd his unique set of skills for a player his size — an array of long-range shots and thunderous dunks. At the end of the event, he gave away some signed basketballs to the audience to show his appreciation to Filipinos who love the game.

The Nike KD 11

During the tour, Durant unveiled the newest colorways of his latest Nike Basketball signature shoe – the KD 11. Along with Nike Senior Designer Leo Chang, Durant discussed the KD 11’s newest features. These include the full-length Zoom paired with Nike’s latest React foam for great cushion on the court, a rubber outsole, which safely cups the foot inside and even extends up to the sides for stability, and a plush, lightweight Flyknit finished the upper to provide breathability, flexibility, and support. The KD 11 ‘Still KD’ is now available in selected outlets while limited quantities of the KD 11 “Peach Jam” will be released exclusively at Titan Park Fort on 8 July.
