Finn Wolfhard to star in film adaptation of a Henry James gothic classic

Stranger Things star Finn Wolfhard will be starring in yet another horror film, this time, a film adaptation of the 1898 gothic classic by Henry James, Turn of the Screw. Titled The Turning, the film revolves around a story told by a former governess who finds herself in custody of orphaned siblings, Miles and Flora, and they live in a house that appears to be haunted.

We’re assuming Wolfhard will be playing the character of Miles, who, after being expelled from boarding school, comes to live with his sister Flora (Mackenzie Davis) and the governess. The film will be directed by Floria Sigismondi (American Gods, The Handmaid’s Tale, The Runaways). Den of Geek reports that she will be working off a script by Jade Bartlett, which is a rewrite of the version submitted by Chad and Carey Hayes of The Conjuring films.

A bit of a backstory: Comingsoon.net reports that the film was supposed to be shot last year with a $17M budget with director Juan Carlos Fresnadillo as Haunted. The script by the Hayes brothers went through a rewrite by Scott Z. Burns that rendered it so unrecognizable and disconnected from the original plot, that Dreamworks and producer Steven Spielberg decided to pull the plug on it five weeks before shooting, and return to the original script by the Hayeses.

Wolfhard and the gang start filming early 2018. The Turning will be produced by Scott Bernstein (Straight Outta Compton) and Roy Lee (It).
