Here’s Netflix’s ‘Altered Carbon’ to fill that sci-fi hole in your soul

Has Stranger Things left a gaping sci-fi hole in your soul? There, there. Here’s yet another sci-fi action drama series to start 2018 right with. Based on the award-winning 2002 novel by Richard K. Morgan, Altered Carbon takes place in a future where the human mind can now be digitized and downloaded into a “cortical stack” and placed into new bodies, called sleeves.

Society has been transformed by new technology. Consciousness can be digitized; human bodies are interchangeable; death is no longer permanent. Envoy soldier Takeshi Kovacs (Joel Kinnaman, Suicide Squad) is the lone surviving soldier in a group of elite interstellar warriors who were defeated in an uprising against the new world order. His mind was imprisoned, “on ice”, for centuries until Laurens Bancroft (James Purefoy, The Following), an impossibly wealthy, long-lived man, offers Kovacs the chance to live again. In exchange, Kovacs has to solve a murder … that of Bancroft himself.

Altered Carbon launches on Netflix Friday, February 2. Watch the trailer:
